HabiTek est un club étudiant dédié à la science du bâtiment, à l’innovation en construction, à la durabilité et à l'éfficacité énergétique. Nous réunissons des étudiants passionnés qui souhaitent apprendre, concevoir et collaborer sur des projets concrets liés au génie du bâtiment et aux technologies émergentes. IceBox Challenge Montréal 2025

Le Icebox Challenge est une expérience publique de sensibilisation née au début des années 2010 en Europe, puis reprise dans plusieurs grandes villes du monde. Son principe est simple : deux boîtes identiques sont exposées pendant plusieurs jours aux mêmes conditions extérieures, mais l’une possède une enveloppe isolée selon des standards de haute performance énergétique (souvent le standard Passivhaus), tandis que l’autre utilise une construction conventionnelle. Chaque boîte contient un bloc de glace, et à la fin du défi, on compare la quantité de glace restante. L’objectif est de démontrer visuellement l’efficacité de l’isolation et de la conception énergétique avancée des bâtiments, en rendant la science du bâtiment accessible et frappante pour le grand public.
Lors de la première édition montréalaise du Ice Box Challenge, organisée cette fois sous forme de compétition plutôt que de démonstration, notre équipe HabiTek de l’ÉTS a conçu et réalisé une structure démontrant l’efficacité énergétique en conditions estivales. Le défi consistait à préserver un énorme bloc de glace pendant plusieurs semaines sans aucun système de refroidissement ni climatisation. Notre projet a mis de l’avant une enveloppe hautement performante, basée sur une isolation optimisée, une excellente étanchéité à l’air et des principes de conception passive. Cette participation nous a permis de présenter au public, de manière concrète et visuelle, l’importance de la science du bâtiment et des stratégies passives dans la création de constructions plus efficientes et durables.
